Wow, how have I not reviewed this place yet? I've been here so many times!! I will always recommend pineapple king bakery to basically anyone that is nearby GGP because its dam delicious. It really is the best pineapple buns dare I say ever? These buns are freshly baked with a slab of butter that gets ooey gooey in the buns, making them a match made in heaven. The buns are soft, hot with a slight chew in the center. Some favorite flavors of mine have to be guava and pandan! The salted egg is bomb too. Basically you'll love them all!!

I can see why there is always a long line outside this place! We finally got to check it out after getting tpumps. There is always a long line and we were wondering what the hype was all about lol. This place is a to-go type of bakery. You can also order ahead online as well. My bf looked at the menu prior and ordered the ube bun and custard bun. I don't know why, but I was thinking of those pineapple bars when I saw "pineapple bakery" lol. It didn't seem appealing to me, but I saw that they had some custard buns and puffs. I got the durian pineapple bun, mango pineapple puffs, and the pudding baguette. The mango pineapple puffs came with two small buns, which I didn't know lol. The filling was sooo good and you can really taste the mango flavor! The bun is also nice; light and flaky! The pudding baguette looks like an egg tart, but when I split it in half, ooey gooey custard starts pouring out! My bf got turned off by it because it reminded him of egg yolks LOL. I loved it!!! I can see why it's only limited to two per customer! This is now our favorite place to get pastries!

Pineapple King specializes in pineapple bread (bolo bun) in the San Francisco. The place is order to-go only, and there are no seats. There was also a line when we went. They offer traditional pineapple breads and some with a modern twist, as well. They are particularly known for their butter series. We decided to order a mix. I got the pandan coconut butter pineapple bun, guava butter pineapple bun, red bean filling pineapple bun, and pork filling pineapple bun. Our favorites were definitely the butter ones. The butters were light and not too dense and was almost cream-like. Surprisingly, I liked the guava butter one more. It was tart and sour. The pandan coconut was creamier and sweeter than the guava and was my second favorite. The pineapple bun with the butters were soft and flaky. For some reason, the pineapple bun for the pork filling and red bean filling ones were on the drier side, and we did not like them as much. Maybe because the others were more popular and fresh, so they were softer. Also, we asked them if they were open on Fourth of July on Instagram, and they responded super fast, which was nice. Overall, I really enjoy their pineapple bun with butter series and would come back to try the rest of the butter series.

I heard great things about this place and definitely wanted to try it out since I love pineapple buns and was curious about all the different flavors that they provide. I ordered online on a sunday morning and still waited around 15 minutes after i arrived. I got the guava butter pineapple bun ($4.20) and the matcha mochi pineapple bun ($4.40). I liked both of them, but would prefer the guava butter more. It was really unique to try the guava flavor, even though I wish it was a little stronger. The butter also melts quite fast to make sure to eat it quick! The matcha mochi was chewy, but also wish the matcha was stronger. If i ihave a chance, i would definitely come back to try other things and come at a less busy time.

This bakery is a delight! Their pastries are fresh and flavorful, with the pineapple bun being a standout. We got the croissant egg tarts to try this time, and they were fresh and flavorful. Tip: Order online for pickup to skip the line.

3.5 STARS There's no debate, Pineapple King Bakery makes the best Bolo Bao 菠蘿包 (pineapple bun) in the bay IF you receive a warm one AND eat it asap. The deliciously crunchy, buttery cookie crust contrasting the airy, fluffy soft interior is so satisfying. Get it Hong Kong cafe style with a thick slab of butter or filled with custard to take it to the next level. (Note: There's no actual pineapple in the bun. It gets its name from the way the cookie crust cracks into a rugged pineapple pattern.) I could have sworn I wrote a review 9 years ago but it looks like it's disappeared like my memory. Last week, Pineapple King released a Croissant Egg Tart. Trying to do a scratch 'n sniff on the screen wasn't going to cut it so had to buy a few. At $3.50 each, they're GGB status (limit 6 per person). As long as it's bomb it doesn't matter... Fresh out the oven, the glossy surface with caramelized leopard spotting and rich, silky smooth, slightly jiggly custard was on point! AZN sweet (not too sweet). The pastry crust is nearly identical to pastel de nata (Portuguese egg tart), golden brown and crispy with some flaky layers. Not shatteringly crispy with many defined layers as one would assume from the name. The upper exterior crust had slightly sweet caramelization so if anything, it *kinda* gave kouign amann vibes. Unfortunately, three out of the four tarts I bought had soggy, underbaked layers. Anyhow, don't get me wrong, the one properly baked tart was good BUT calling it a "croissant" egg tart felt gimmicky to generate hype. Had they just call it what it is: Portuguese tart/pastel de nata, I prolly wouldn't have trekked across the city for it (they do have a Portuguese tart on the menu but didn't buy it for comparison basis). So, props for the smart marketing! O T H E R I N F O * Take out only. No customers allowed inside. * In-person order = Cash only * Online order via Square = CC's accepted * Two separate lines for pick up and online orders. * Online orders are prepared when you arrive so there's a wait. Pick-up time: 1 pm. Arrival: 12:55 pm. I was told to come back in 30 minutes. * Unique bolo bao butters + fillings: guava butter, salted egg butter, pandan butter, strawberry mousse, matcha custard, matcha mochi, ube, etc. * This time, the balo bao wasn't served warm. * Skip the char siu bao! First time trying it here. Cold (pulled from fridge), the bbq pork was shredded and tasted like several days old leftovers. * Very challenging parking during peak times. Get dropped off.

AMAZING 10000/10 pineapple buns. I really wished I lived closer to this bakery so I could go every weekend!! ordering: you can order online or in-person but they don't have indoor seating nor can you go inside. you order at the entrance and pick-up at a window. if you order online, they won't start preparing your order until you arrive so that the bun is fresh/warm. food: pineapple bun with pandan coconut butter - I can't express how good this pastry is, I would rank it as one of the top 5 pastries I've ever had. the butter was soo flavourful and the bun was the perfect texture of lightly crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. iced hong kong milk tea - also amazing. the tea flavor is very strong and it's not too sweet. definitely stop by this place if you're in the area!

I never got the hype about pineapple buns until this place. Usually they are dry and don't really taste like pineapple much. After putting our name down on the waitlist at Gao, the Vietnamese restaurant across the street, we wandered over here to see what the hype was about. There always seems to be a long line of young people outside. I ordered the original pineapple puffs (they have cream filling) and a pudding baguette. The ordering process is horribly confusing, the line makes no sense, and the wait for the puffs was really long. There were people in line, people waiting randomly in front, people in anther line, and no one in front of the cashier. I was worried I was cutting people but another customer motioned me to go right up to the cashier. After getting cut by several people and checking with other people in line, I went up to the cashier and ordered. Then I was told to wait in the line to the right. It's a hot mess. However, the puffs are really good, pretty much like choux à la crème. The cream was smooth and delicious. The pudding baguette was okay. It's a bread filled with a egg tart-like filling. I'll have to try the regular bun and the other special types of buns, especially the one with a chunk of butter next time.

Props to fellow Yelp users that recommend online ordering. I am echoing that advice. We ordered ahead, got to the store at around 9:45 on a Sunday, told them we were there, and got our box of goodies about 15 minutes later. The pineapple buns feel like they are fresh from the oven - warm with a slab of butter jammed in the middle. I commend the person who came up with this concept. We tried the original (unflavored butter), salted egg, pandan, and guava. They were all very good, but my favorites were the guava and pandan. Just thought they brought something a little more interesting to the table. It's to-go only, so we inhaled our baked goods, standing on the sidewalk. I ate about 1.5 buns worth of pineapple buns, and that felt like I had hit my butter limit. Next time, I will mix it up with something else like a BBQ Pork Bun or the Pudding Baguette that looked amazing. Awesome place for buns, you won't break the bank here, and not too long of a wait with online ordering.
